The Landmark
A Symbol of Texan Spirit
The Venue at Landmark in New Braunfels, Texas, stands as an enduring monument of Texan innovation.
Originating as The Comal Power Plant in 1926, this iconic structure was originally built as a hydro-electric facility to harness the energy of the Comal Canal. Once converted to a coal plant in 1927, it not only powered Central Texas but most every other electrical grid east of the Rocky Mountains. It even provided power for military bases during World War II, contributing to both Texan history and American history as well.

Its later transformation from coal to natural gas marked a signifying chapter in the industrial evolution of the region and reflected the adaptability and resilience of the Texan spirit.
The 1970s saw the plant decommissioned and later officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Since then, the Comal Plant has undergone remarkable transformations. Today, The Landmark Garden Lofts & Suites and The Venue at Landmark share this iconic building, maintaining its cultural legacy while providing both luxury apartments and rentable event space.
